Going into the 2010 Snowbird Nationals we had high hopes and expectations from the Griffin 1/12 on-road cars and the Lithium 1/10 oval cars. Our cars and our racers had an outstanding weekend with wins in both oval and on-road, podiums and multiples of cars making the finals.

On-Road:
In 1/12 13.5, Jason Shreffler was still getting used to his Griffin 12 but with each run he found himself more comfortable and with that the speed kept coming. With a solid qualifying effort, Jason spent the entire 8 minutes of the final trying to find a way past Hupo who has proved he has some of the best nerves in r/c. By far the faster car, Jason just could not find a clean way past and had to settle for 2nd place. A great performance with only a short time with the car and his first race with the Griffin!!
In 1/12 Modified, Josh Cyrul built on the sucess from winning the Novak Race just a few weeks before. With solid runs to take the TQ position for the final, he used his #1 starting position to lead from the horn and never looked back. Josh's win was a record setting 11th Snowbird Nationals Title.
In TC Modified, Josh Cyrul used the Snowbirds to test the coming Evolution by CEFX for the TOP Photon. This was the first race for the prototype parts which did not disapoint with a 3rd place podium finish after a strong 4th place qualifying effort.
Oval:
COT 13.5 was by far the largest class at the 2010 Snowbird Nationals. Jimmy Flack had a great run qualifying 3rd only to get involved in several crashes in the main and was out early. Brian Deel spent qualifying searching for the magical speedo/motor set up that could get his CEFX Lithium to the front and with some help from George Verbonitz he found it just in time for the main. Coming from 6th on the grid, he managed to get involved in some of the pile ups but still had the fastest car on the track to run down the leader. With about 25 seconds to go the leader shut down coming off of turn two and that gave Brian the go ahead win with nearly a lap on the field!!
In 10.5, CEFX had 4 drivers in the final consisting of Corey Heft, Adam Leihr, Brian Deel and Dusty Dean. It seemed like everyone got a little banged around at the start with Dusty out early but Adam manged to work his way back to 5th and Corey had a great driving coming all the way back to 2nd for a solid podium finish.
In 7.5, Josh Cyrul was 5th on the grid and got off to a slow start. After getting clipped in traffic twice he was able to hold his position and make a late race charge on 2nd place runner Rick Talbot but it just wasn't enough as Josh had to settle for 3rd but another strong podium finish for CEFX.
In Open Mod, the battle all weekend wasn't among the drivers but just simply racing the track and their equipment as making run time was nearly impossible for most. Monti Panzica had it figured out and throwing everything at it but the kitchen sink, Josh Cyrul came up just a few seconds short on run time in qualifying 4th and finishing 4th in the main.
Overall, it was a great week of racing at the 2010 Snowbirds. Mike Boylan and his crew did an excellent job with the event as always and we are already looking forward to coming back to the Birds in 2011 with an even stronger effort. Congratulations to all the winners and all the CEFX racers for a great week of racing!!
